Saturday September 22nd FAW Trophy Round Two
Brymbo 5-0 Junction
Junction were drawn against Brymbo last season and lost 3-1, the
Wrexham Area side going on to win the competition by beating Glan
Conwy 7-2 in the final and also winning their league. This season
the home team are on fine form, unbeaten and last week winning 12-0
so the writing was on the wall for Junction.
Pre match was a farce due to an over fussy referee who ruled that
bright yellow and navy was too much of a clash with amber and black,
he was the only person thinking that way but he would not be moved.
Initially it was agreed that the home team would wear red but this
was then changed to Junction wearing red, the Brymbo players went
ape and this was reversed, the Brymbo chairman then went ape so
eventually Junction took to the field in a rainbow kit of red
shirts, yellow shorts and blue socks.
A very flat first half with the home team on top, they took the lead
in the 20th minute when Andy “I’m innocent” Colville was adjudged to
have fouled Keiron Jones in the box, the highly rated striker made
no mistake putting the home side 1-0 up and that is how it remained
up until ˝ time.
Half time: 1-0
Brymbo should have gone further ahead straight after the restart;
Jones one on one with Joey Welsh saw his effort well saved by the
Junction keeper. Joey was back in action in the 50th minute, once
again pulling off a cracking save. Jones however made no mistake in
the 55minute as he put the home side 2-0 up, we didn’t have to wait
long for the third, Neil Wynne scoring just three minutes later,
this prompted Gary John into making two substitutions with Matt
Cassidy replacing Callum Vernon and Neil Picton coming on for Andy
Colville. This did not stop the rot and almost immediately Jones got
his hat trick, a header from a throw in. Junction’s efforts were few
and far between; Paul Lloyd picking up the rebound from a Dwyfor
Williams free kick was just wide of the post. Lloydy had another
chance in the 74th minute but the home keeper took his shot easily.
In the 75th minute Neil Wynne had a good effort well saved by Joey,
shortly after this Gary John was replaced by Sam Magill, the
Junction player manager saying that he was “too sexy for his shirt”
or was it “too old for this” (answers on a postcard please). The
home team finished the scoring off in the 78th minute when once
again we conceded a penalty, this time the offender was Steve
Priestley.
Final Score 5-0
Another disappointing result, Brymbo are a good side, in fact a very
good side but once again we created little and had only a couple of
half chances.
