There is a famous football saying " Its a game of Two Halves" , and never before has that saying applied so fittingly to a game as it does to Junction Juniors encounter with the Unbeaten Llandudno Swifts side at the flyover on this bright Sunday morning.
Arriving at the ground early, the boys were up for the game and keen to get started. There was a bit of a gamble from manager Mike Smith trying the untested Luke Jenson in goal and playing regular goalkeeper Jamie Booth in the heart of defence alongside Captain, Alex Gardner.
The gamble showed itself to pay off throughout the game as Alex and Jamie struckup a great understanding straight from the kick off and it seemed like no one was going to get past them today!
A throw in from Gardner deep into the swifts box created all sorts of problems and resulted in the defender slicing it into his own goal to give Junction a 1-0 lead.Soon afterwards, a swifts player handled the ball just outside the box and from the resulting Free kick, Alex Gardner smashed the ball flying into the swifts net but the goal sadly had to be disallowed as it was an indirect free kick
Throughout the whole of the first half, Junction bossed the game with Booth and Gadner solid at the back,Luke Bartlett and Andrew Markos winning everything in the middle of the field and Harvey Evans tirelessly making runs up front.Latest signing Luke Jenson pulled off some fantastic saves to deny the swifts an equaliser until shortly before half time they made a breakthrough when an error let their striker in to give Jenson no chance in goal
The teams went in 1-1 at half time with Junction firmly in control and fully expecting to come out second half and inflict the first defeat of the season on the Swifts.
Luck has not been with this Junction team this season as chances went begging when they should have scored from 3 consecutive corners when all that was needed was a touch.
pushing forward in search of a winner began to leave holes in defence and the swifts capitalised on three further mistakes to give them a flattering 4-1 win.
Junction can be very proud of their performance against one of the top sides in the league and will see this as an opportunity missed.This was a new look line up which is showing great potential and they will have to be on the top of their game when they look to pull off a couple of shock results against two other top teams in the next fortnight when they face Colwyn Bay Celts who inflicted a severe 15-0 thrashing on the boys at the start of the season followed by a game against the Junction Senior Team who have been scoring goals for fun all season.
The future for this team looks bright and with some more confidence, concentration and the elusive luck, this team will cause problems for the top sides for he remainder of the season.
