Saturday October 20th
Welsh Alliance League Halkyn Utd 0-0 Junction
A different line up this week with Bobby Colville returning from the
land of slumber that led him to miss last week’s reserve game and
“Junction till I die” Nathan Jones returning from his brief spell at
Glan Conwy.
A beautiful day at Halkyn with Junction hoping to get their first
away points of the season. Junction started in positive mood with a
corner in the 4th minute, the pressure continued with a free kick on
the edge of the box that was blasted over by Lloydy. The home team
were limited in their threat to the Junction goal as Junction
continued to create and waste several chances. The best chance
falling to Bobby Colville whose rasping shot came off the crossbar.
In a frustrating half for the Junction bench we saw good play
between Natty and Neil Poynton that saw Neil’s shot saved by the
keeper.
The half finished 0-0 with Junction guilty of not taking the many
chances that they had. A good defensive performance from Tony
Priestley and Neil Picton – for the first time ever we witnessed
Pico actually being taller than the Halkyn player that he was
marking.
Half time: 0-0
The home team started the second half on top with Rob Jones called
into action to pull off a good save following a defensive error.
Junction’s first chance came in the 51st minute, the ball laid back
to Lloydy whose shot was agonisingly over the bar. In the 55th
minute a cheeky flick from Nathan saw Bobby clear in the box but the
home keeper beat him to the ball. The home team then had a good 10
minutes but Junction should have taken the lead in the 67th minute
when following a clearance John Paul ran from his own half beating
several Halkyn defenders to go one on one with the keeper – shot
just wide.
In the 69th minute Bobby was replaced by Gary John and we witnessed
for the second week running an opposition player trying to body
check Rob Jones, and for the second week running the smallest player
on the pitch was sent crashing to the floor.
Chances galore fell to Junction in the last twenty minutes that saw
the home team under constant pressure with chances to Neil Poynton
following a good run in the 79th minute, a free kick on the edge of
the box in the 86th minute and three minutes later when Neil Poynton
found himself with an open goal but blasted his effort over.
Final Score 0-0
A frustrating afternoon as we saw chance after chance go begging,
the plus point however was that we kept a clean sheet and played
some good football. We need a striker and in view of the transfer
window now being closed it may now the time to give the reserves a
chance.
