Saturday December 1st Welsh
Alliance League
Junction 2-3 Holywell Town
Following the awful weather it was very wet underfoot at a windswept
flyover, Junction playing the first half against the wind.
First chance to Junction in the 4th minute, a well-struck free kick
was headed clear for a corner. From the corner Holywell counter
attacked, a good effort well saved by Joey who also safely collected
the resulting corner. It was end-to-end stuff in the first ten
minutes with chances to both sides but it was Junction who took the
lead in the 13th minute. A good ball into the box was met by the
Holywell keeper who made a real hash of it, allowing John Paul to
nip in and make it 1-0. In the 19th minute, a corner to Holywell
that was met by Jamie Morris – a powerful header with a cracking
save by Joey.
Another chance to Junction in the 25th minute, a free kick taken by
Natty but easily gathered by Wayne Edwards in the Holywell goal, a
counter attack from the visitors saw Shaun Pritchard one on one with
the keeper but, as Joey came off his line, he put his shot wide.
In the 32 mins the visitors deservedly drew level thanks to a
defensive cock up, with Joey calling for the ball and coming out to
collect Tony Priestley inexplicably headed the ball past the
stranded Junction keeper.
Junction regained the lead in the 43rd minute thanks to an angled
drive from John Paul for his second of the game.
Half time: 2-1
In the second half Junction were unable to take advantage of playing
with the wind and it was the visitors who drew level after 52
minutes, Joey pulling off a fine save only to see the ball dropping
to Shaun Pritchard. In the 60th minute Junction had strong appeals
for a penalty turned down as Natty went down in the box and in the
67th minute a “goal” was disallowed for offside.
In the 88th minute Joey capped a MOM performance with yet another
save in a one on one situation and for most of us we thought that
was it but how wrong we were. The referee somehow found an extra
five minutes of added time during which Junction should have scored
with Neil Poynton and John Paul both missing chances. We witnessed
Holywell score the winner with virtually the last kick of the game
in controversial circumstances, as it appeared that their player was
in an offside position, a very disappointing result that sees us
hovering above the drop zone.
Final Score 2-3
A devastating result with Holywell scoring with virtually the last
kick of the game, how many times will I have to repeat myself that
missed chances cost us dearly?
